Amal Clooney, lawyer
WHY HER ? « SHE IS A FIGHTER WHO DEFENDS HUMAN BEINGS, THEIR FREEDOM AND DIGNITY. I PAINTED HER WITH COLORS THAT REFLECT ITS STRENGTH AND DYNAMISM. »
If Charoula Nikolaidou chose Amal Clooney as his "muse", it is because they have in common what Fernand Braudel called the "memories of the Mediterranean". Both come from lands of incessant conflict, where reconciliation is fragile. Born in Beirut in 1978, lawyer, Oxford law graduate, specialist in human rights, Amal Clooney is today fighting for the fate of the Yezidi, targets of the jihadists in Iraq, and for the establishment of ad hoc tribunals to judge the perpetrators of this genocide.
By Charoula Nikolaidou
Born in Thessaloniki, Charoula Nikolaidou, a young Greek artist, studied art at Aristotle University. Her works are quickly noticed by critics for their softness, elegance, transparency and silence, which give rise to a feeling of turmoil.
Elle y montre des personnages apaisés, des couples fusionnels et soudés, des agoras pleines de monde en discussion et propose une vision de ce que doit être la démocratie : un espace où souffle l’esprit, la bienveillance, la compréhension et la défense des libertés.
CAUSE : ELISE CARE, an international solidarity NGO that provides medical aid to civilian populations living in conflict zones, particularly in Iraq, Syria and Ethiopia.
